Given that the price includes the stand, wheels, cast table and a fence that clamps at both ends this saw offers excellent value over its competitors. My workshop is small and I use the saw outside so portability was a big factor in my choice.
However, the saw is not without issues that are not addressed by any of the video reviews I watched. Fortunately all but 1 were easily fixed.
1. The cover that holds the blade wrench and spare blades arrived broken in the box. Very flimsy plastic hinges. I cut them off and riveted in a pair of flat steel cabinet hinges.
2. The shims on the mitre gauge rail were secured with small countersunk screws that cannot clamp securely against the flat recessed slot in the shims. Tightening them only distorts the shims. Replaced with four flathead M3x6mm machine screws. Solved. Shims locked in place and mitre gauge now runs well in the slot with no side to side play
3. The angled bracket that holds the riving knife was machined out of square so there was no way to align the riving knife parallel to the blade both at all cutting depths. A beercan shim under 2 of the 3 clamping screws fixed this.
4. The cast alu table is not entirely flat … it has a slight dip in the centre near the blade. About 1mm. I can’t fix this. Not enough to be an issue (yet) so I’m going to live with it for now.
5. The fence was square out of the box but was not clamping square every time. Quick fix. There is an adjusting bolt near the rear clamp. This adjusts the ‘timing’ of the rear clamp so that it does not engage until after the front clamp has pulled tight against the machined rail.
Happy with it now. The soft start and brake on shut-down is nice. It runs fairly quiet. Power is good. Cuts are smooth with the stock blade. There is no dust collection from the top blade guard as shown in Metabo’s product videos. Dust is mostly routed below the table and extraction is good with a vac connected.
The issues I had were cheap and easy to fix and I still think the saw offers good value if you need portability.
